This ain’t your typical factory-like PT operation. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. I absolutely detest that model where a single PT is asked to treat multiple patients at once, and at the end of the day, the patient loses out. So I’ve flipped the script, and I’ve taken approach that allows me to better do my job, and allows you to get the most out of each session.
All sessions are one hour in length and 100% one-on-one with me. No passing you off to an aide or shouting at you from across the room while I tend to another patient. Like it or not, you’ve got my undivided attention.
The beginning portion of your first session will be spent discussing your injury or injuries and any relevant medical history. I’ve always felt that the assessment is the most important part of any treatment, and as such, I devote an extensive amount of time to it. You can have the fanciest tools in the world, but if you’re treating the wrong thing, it ain’t gonna do you any good.
From here, a full body and then more region specific assessment will be performed to determine the cause of your symptoms and any contributing factors. This is the meat and potatoes (apologies to any vegetarians) of treatment.
Next comes the actual body work, or hands on portion. After I am done doing anything that I think I can assist you with manually, YOU get to work! Though treating you and then leaving you to your own devices to go and mess everything up again is good for my wallet, it’s not good for your health. Thus, I will be providing you with movements, exercises, and behavioral modifications (breathing, desk setup, smartphone usage, sleeping positions) to help ensure the corrections that we just made, stick. I will email you links to videos that demonstrate the appropriate exercises so you can’t say that you forgot how to do them.
Follow-up session(s) can be booked at that time or scheduled as we deem necessary. It should be noted that if I begin seeing you regularly for the same body part or symptom, more time of subsequent sessions will be spent doing hands-on work along with movement and mobility drills, with less time required for evaluation.
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for full movement and motion. For lower extremity injuries shorts are preferred. Depending on the pathology I will likely have you remove your shirt to allow for better evaluation and increased ease of treatment. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any objections to this. Please make sure to bring the sneakers/footwear that you use for exercise if your injury is exercise-related.
