MOTM #168: Rebuilding A Life After Complete Paralysis with AJ Osborne

Monday, December 16th, 2019

My guest today isn’t in the movement space at all. In fact, just a short time ago AJ Osborne experienced rapid onset paralysis. AJ suffers from a rare neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome, where his own immune system mistakenly attacks his nerves. There is no known cause, and there is cure. Everything in AJ’s life was tipped on its head overnight.

AJ has spent the past two years rebuilding his muscles and his movement from the ground up. Against nearly impossible odds, his positivity and refusal to take a passive role in the recovery process has inspired and captivated me—and now hopefully you, too. His is a story you have to hear to believe.

In This Episode You'll Hear:

  • AJ’s rapid onset paralysis
  • What is Guillain-Barré Syndrome
  • 4 months of physical and psychological terror
  • An aura of hope and care from AJ’s nurses and therapists
  • Transitioning from ICU to rehab to home
  • Losing guidance from medical professionals and insurance companies
  • How AJ managed polar opposite possibilities
  • Meeting other Guillain-Barré patients
  • AJ’s passive income that allowed him to maintain his pride
  • Holding on to the right mindset
  • Rebuilding his body and remaining active
  • Combatting fear through community
