MOTM #248: State of the Union: Micro-gyms and CrossFit with Anthony Mucurio

Monday, October 19th, 2020

The State of the Union continues. Today I wanted to talk about how COVID and widespread shutdowns have affected gyms and other fitness related industries, so who better to talk to than the owner of the most impressive gym in Upstate New York, Anthony Mucurio.

You all know Anthony is one of my best friends, but friends or not, his passion for fitness and his business-savvy is unmatched. Gyms all across America have permanently shut their doors, but Prime Movement and Performance is still going strong, and that’s in no small part due to Anthony’s willingness to get his hands dirty and adapt to the changing of the times.

Anthony believes that days of the Big-Box Chain Gym are over, and so do I. If being stuck indoors for 6+ months has made anything clear, it’s that moving our bodies and staying strong are non-negotiable. What you believe in matters, and Anthony believes in a stronger, healthier future for anyone willing to put in the work.

In This Episode You'll Hear:

  • A quick and dirty recap of COVID’s affect on gyms
  • The pros and cons of being in a more rural area
  • How COVID has impacted Anthony’s own health
  • Continuing to push the boulder up-hill
  • Will fitness continue to be a priority?
  • Running CrossFit a little differently
  • Find what you want to provide, and double down on it
  • Adjusting gym work for COVID guidelines
  • Anthony’s work as a P.E. Teacher
  • Finding ways to get kids active
  • Starting healthy lifestyle habits while it’s easy
  • The future of the health and fitness industry
