DM #6: Thought this quote was only fitting as Day number two of the CrossFit games east regionals comes to a conclusion. I absolutely love the CrossFit has done for fitness, and what exercise programs like P90X and Soul Cycle have done to get folks off their butts. However, it's important to remember that longevity will only be granted to us if our movement is sound. Virtuous movement patterns should always be the foundation and the goal. When these movements are owned, then we can seek fitness while performing those movements, as we've built a healthy base from which to grow.
Doing 1 million crappy squats will not make you better at squatting. Doing as many crappy squats as you can in 10 minutes will not make you better at squatting. Ensuring you have all the prerequisite mobility and stability required for a squat will however make you better at squatting, after which you can use squatting to improve your overall fitness.

Stop stacking performance on dysfunction. Concern yourself with the quality of your movement before you get caught up in the quantity of movement.
