DM #39: When a patient comes on complaining about X hurting, then yes, you must start by looking at X. But if that's the only place you look, the only place you treat, the only area that you think is involved, then you'd better hope I don't find you, because if I do, I'm gonna punch you in the knee.
Yes, you must first manage whatever pain that person has, which often times means treating the actual area that they are complaining about. Use whatever techniques, modalities, and pain science that you want. But then you must figure out why that area started hurting in the first place!

It's all connected, and to quote Ida Rolf for the one millionth time, “Where you think it is, it ain't.” So how do you figure out where it is? MOVEMENT! Why? Well, to quote Martha Graham for the two millionth time, because “Movement never lies.” Use whatever philosophy/approach/school of thought that you want. Just make sure that your looking at things globally. Time to flip the script and start realizing that barring acute injury/trauma, the area that hurts is simply the area that hurts. X only marks the start. Now the real fun begins ?

And ICYMI: I finally posted that butt wink/hip flexion video. #MaestroOnAMountain. Stay tuned for part 2!
