DM #72: I know it's an hour early, but I'm posting this now because I've been stuck in the airport in Charlotte for 3 hours and have no idea when I'm gonna get to Jacksonville ?. Anyway, I get a fair amount of inquires from folks asking how to fix X, or what the best exercise is for Y. While I love hearing from you all, the honest truth is that without an actual assessment I really have no idea what’s going on with you or what the best course of action would be. Yes, things tend to fall into patterns and sometimes a shotgun approach will clear up whatever it is that’s bothering you, but your best bet is ALWAYS to get assessed by a trusted professional.
The same thing goes for self-treatment, especially if you don’t hold any sort of medical license/degree/credentials. I do understand that there are a lot of self-help books and resources out there, my own stuff included, but everything I post comes with the caveat of get yourself looked at before you go smashing this and mobilizing that.
Without and assessment you run the risk of at worst missing a serious injury. But in most cases you often end up wasting your time working on the wrong area, chasing pain and symptoms instead of addressing the actual problem.
Assessment is the foundation of any successful treatment, and as we all know, if you don’t have a sound foundation, you don’t have jack.
Ok, I’ve got a plane to catch. Finally.
