DM #109: Superficial front line. Spiral line. Tom Myer's book, Anatomy trains. Start there, because I know you're gonna ask where you can learn more.
Anterior shin pain can be a classic case of where you think it is, it ain't. Persistent anterior shin muscle pain/discomfort after running? Or maybe even with squatting?! (Definitely gonna make a separate DM about that) Check out your hip flexion ability.
Decreased hip flexion mobility, strength, or motor control can be compensated for by the muscles that dorsiflex your ankle, as tissues that contribute to both of these motions reside within the same fascial chains.
Take home message? Massage your shins (no, I'm not talking about the bone ?) but fix your hips. Your anterior tibialis will thank you.
