DM #125: If you can deadlift over twice your bodyweight, but can't run 200m without getting winded, we've got a problem.

I absolutely love CrossFit, but I feel that it's allowed people to neglect aspects of their health, and their well-being, under the guise that they are fit, because they can lift heavy things. I had a great conversation tonight with two awesome ladies from my RockTape seminar, and we discussed all things health, fitness, and PT related. The common theme? Movement as a predictor of your longevity and well-being.

The bottom line was that we as therapists are not primarily concerned with how many times you go to the gym, how much weight you lift, or how many unbroken pull-ups you can do. Yes, that's cool, but I am first concerned with how healthy you are. I am concerned with the food you are putting into your body, the mobility you possess at your joints, and how well you are moving.
Fitness is great, but health is the priority, and the foundation. Concern yourself first with the health of your gut, the health of your joints, the health of your system. Focus your attention on wellness instead of the weight on the bar and watch the gains roll in.
