DM #568: Treated more patients today than my usual amount (haha, trust me, don't feel bad for me) and couldn't help but think of this quote.

At the end of the day, we're treating humans; living, breathing, dynamic systems. As such, nothing is guaranteed. Just because it's worked with a bunch of other people doesn't mean it's 100% for sure going to work with this person. We enter the situation hopeful, providing options, explanations, and a guarantee that we will try our best. Our patients deserve that.

Instill confidence in your patients, but make sure it's founded in truth…and reality. And if you still must make promises, promise them that you'll do your best to help them navigate the rehab/recovery process…because nothing is 100% guaranteed.
