DM #580: It's easy to blindly write stuff off when you're not the one in pain. ??♂️

Did a post earlier encouraging folks to be a bit more open-minded in their approach to treatment, and figured it warranted a bit more discussion. Despite the fact that @rocktape is so much more than just a taping company, the fact that it has the word “tape” in the name causes many people to write it off before they've even given it a chance. Honestly, until a few years ago, I was one of those people. ??♂️

What's my point? If you flip the script and put yourself in your patient's shoes you just might start to understand why being more receptive to different forms of treatment isn't the worst thing. As someone in pain, you'd want anything and everything that could possibly help, especially if you've tried numerous things and are still in pain. I know that when my hip was at its worst I didn't give two ? ? about studies, or clinical prediction rules or anything besides getting my hip to feel better.

If you want to ground your work solely in things that are back by studies (?) go ahead. I am not here to argue that. I am simply encouraging you to consider adding more tools to the toolbox, despite preconceived notions as to what that tool may or not do. We all know how to use an ultrasound unit…and there are patients out their who swear by them. Who am I to argue with them and tell them that they don't feel better because that modality has no evidence to support its efficacy?!?

Remember, if it helps even one person there is value in it. You don't need to make obscure practices the central part of your treatment, but if your goal is to help people, having a huge toolbox is never a bad thing.
