DM #140: The popular screening systems and assessment models that are out there should serve as guidelines, NOT confines.
All to often I see therapists who get so caught up in the fact that they are not certified in this or haven't taken that course, that they forget that they are therapists and actually already know a ?ton of things!!! Yes, things like FMS/SFMA/NKT/PRI/FMT/ART/FRC/IASTM/TPI/IPA (did I miss anything?) are cool, but you don't need to have taken all of these courses to start thinking like that and figuring out better ways to screen, assess, and treat your patients.
In reality, no one course will ever provide you with all the tools needed to treat every patient. To that end, the sooner we realize that it is our understanding, our interpretation, and our application of the methodologies taught, and not the methodologies in and of themselves that make all the difference, the better off we will be.

A saw makes for a terrible hammer, but what is even worse is not knowing whether your trying to nail something or screw something in in the first place. (Get your mind out of the gutter ?). This is analogous to taking these courses and learning the tools to screen or assess someone, but not knowing why the heck you're screening or assessing them in the first place!

My point is simply to not get so caught up in the fact that there are popular systems out there that you forget you are capable of thinking on your own. Know what you are trying to accomplish and then find the tools to do the job, not the other way around.
