DM #124: I get lots of inquiries asking me what I think is causing a certain issue or why a certain movement looks a certain way. As much as I'd love to give you a concrete answer (who am I kidding, I love making you guys think and figure stuff out on your own), that's just not possible. Especially without an assessment, and even then, absolutes should be provided with caution, if at all.
I'm always reading and trying to learn new things, and while much of it supports how I currently practice, it also serves to reveal just how multifactorial things are when it comes to human dysfunction. No two people are identical, no two cases will ever be the exact same, and there will never be only one way to interpret, understand, and treat a pathology.
The practitioner who speaks in absolutes and leaves no room for questioning should be approached with caution. You should absolutely be confident in your approach, but equally open to discussion, and always seeking growth.
My point in doing all these DMs is not to provide you with a step-by-step recipe for how to treat and or diagnose specific pathologies. Far from it. It is my hope that my musings will provide you with a lens through which to view things, and open your eyes to the fact that there is no one size fits all approach. There are so many variables at play, and your squat may not look like your friend's squat for completely different reasons. When it comes to treating humans, well, it really does depend.
