DM #16: Breathing is the most fundamental movement pattern that we have. Stop stacking performance on dysfunction. Stop stacking dysfunction on dysfunction. Stop trying to address dysfunction from the top down.

If you're working on your dysfunction, I commend you. However, if you come to me with a laundry list of issues, the absolute first thing I'm going to look at is your breathing. Heck, if you come to me with just one problem, the first thing that I'm going to look at is your breathing. Everything is built from there. Often times, if you address your breathing, other stuff will start to clear up. Breathing also helps you to retain any mobility and movement gains you make while you're addressing your dysfunction, as you get the nervous system on board, which allows the tissues to do what you want them to do.

RNT is great. Corrective exercises are great. Mobility techniques are great. But all too often I see people using high-level techniques to try and correct basic dysfunction. Keep it simple then go from there. If you don't own breathing, you don't own movement. Start at the bottom and work your way up.

I'm gonna repost a breathing video I did a while back for those of you who didn't catch it the first time around. Get to work.
