DM #629: Let’s bring that pendulum back to the middle, shall we?
—
The word biopsychosocial still has ‘bio’ in it. Pain science is still concerned with actually treating the pain. Don’t get so carried away with theory and research advances that you forget to treat the patient in front of you. Touch helps. Treating the area helps. Addressing symptoms helps.
—
I have recited Ida Rolf’s infamous quote “Where you think it is, it ain’t”, about a million times. But nowhere in this quote does it say “Ignore where the patient says it is because it ain’t there.” No. Treat the symptoms then go back and find, fix, address the cause.
—
All this to say, as always, moderation. The extremes get the likes on social media, but the middle ground gets the likes by your patients. Touch the dang area that hurts. Then go and figure out the why.
