July 2000 – Tore my L ACL playing basketball, surgery that summer. First introduction to physical therapy. Wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon.
2003-2007 – Attended Georgetown for college, played D1 soccer there. Pre-med human science major.
2007 – Finished pre-med track but decided during my senior year that I didn’t want to go med school. Advisor recommend PT school. Made sure I had all the pre-reqs, applied, got in.
2007-2010 – PT school at NYU. Pretty much hated it. My best friend from college was attending med school at NYU at the same time. Felt I had made a mistake.
2010 – Graduated, got my first job (which was not easy despite feeling like I had so much to offer the world). Mill. Hated it. Felt I had made a mistake in becoming a PT.
2012 – Spoke with my favorite professor from PT school, Dr. Rao, about my frustration with the industry, and feeling like I wasn’t learning, and she recommended I speak with a friend of hers and he suggested I take the OCS exam.
2012 – Gave my first workshop at my clinic about running. Realized the value of putting your money where your mouth is, taking a deep dive into topics, and then educating others. Was training for the NYC marathon (didn’t run it b/c of Sandy) and also very involved in the barefoot movement.
2012 – Got a job at a physical therapy clinic that specialized in pelvic floor PT which was all new to me and thus satisfied the part of me that was looking to learn more. Decided to postpone the OCS exam until the following year.
2013 – Registered for the OCS exam.
2013 – Trained for the NYC marathon and actually ran it this time. Continued with my running but started developing knee pain and discovered kinesiotape.
Early 2014 – Started CrossFit at CrossFit 718 in Brooklyn after running by it almost every day while training. Immediately became addicted and my quest to leran more somehow lead me to social media and accounts like MobilityWOD and WODdoc. I went on to take a MobilityWOD seminar and saw that continuing education could be fun.
Mid 2014 – Took and passed the OCS exam. Received the results while I was on the beach in Redondo Beach, CA (where I currently live).
Late 2014 – Was asked to become the in-house PT at CrossFit 718, so I started a website so that the people in the morning classes would know who the heck I was. Was still working as a full time PT at the pelvic floor facility but quickly getting burnt out. Decided to call myself The Movement Mechanic. Started a Facebook page and then changed this name pretty quickly after I had some good traction and googled the name and realized that some massage therapists in Denver had trademarked it. Changed it to the Movement Maestro, even though I didn’t love the word Maestro, because of the alliteration.
September 24, 2014 – After seeing all of the stuff that K-star was doing, and becoming thoroughly obsessed with crossfit, I decided I wanted to add my 2 pennies to the conversation and made my first Instagram post. It was about using kinesiotape to protect your collar bones from the barbell. Filmed videos at lunch, after work, at my gym. Any moment that I could.
February 28, 2015 – Took RockTape Basic and Performance with Dr. Perry Nickelston after following him on social media and loving what he was saying and also on the recommendation of a friend. LOVED IT. Life changing. For the first time in my life I asked for something. Emailed Perry after the course and asked how I could become an instructor. Didn’t care how long it took. I knew I wanted in.
Thursday May 21, 2015 – Received an email from Dr. Steve Capobianco about the hiring process for RockTape.
August 2015 – Left my full-time clinical job. Wasn’t sure how much money I’d make at RockTape but my clinical job had become a mill, I was stressed, they were giving me a hard time about filming stuff, and I was physically breaking down. I started seeing patients one-on-one, cash based, at my CrossFit box, and at 2 spaces I was renting from friends. Still filming and posting. Started doing some online/virtual consults.
October 21, 2015 – Taught my first RockTape course.
2016 – Taught like a mad person for RockTape. Constant travel. Loved it. Used the trips to gain exposure for The Movement Maestro brand.
May 23, 2016 – Posted my first Daily Maestroism. Went on to post for 1000 days in a row. Decided to really double down on social media and grow this platform.
July 2016 – Moved to California. Had a treatment space lined up when I moved thanks to social media.
July 31 2016 – Hit 10k followers on IG
January 2017 – Was voted RockTape’s MVP instructor. Continued to teach like a mad person for them.
2017 – Continued with the momentum. Social media presence continued to grow. Started doing a little online coaching. Realized I like teaching more than treating and began treating less and less and focusing on teaching/educating. Got to attend big conferences with RockTape and grow my presence/realize that people knew me and really liked what I was doing.
2018 – Stopped offering treatments at the facility I was renting space at. Switched my focus fully to teaching and coaching.
Wednesday April 18, 2018 – Launched my podcast Maestro on the Mic after much pushing, support, and encouragement from the ever-handsome Dr. Jimmy McKay.
November 1-3, 2018 – First international speaking gig – MEFIT Pro – Dubai, UAE
November 24-25, 2018 – Taught my personal course, Moving with the Maestro, for the first time, in New Zealand
November 26, 2018 – Decided to open registration for my US based MWTM courses on cyber Monday…while I was in New Zealand. Realized that I could in fact make money with my own courses.
2019 – Still teaching for RockTape but fully committed to growing The Movement Maestro.
Feb 9-10, 2019 – Taught my first US-based MWTM course to a sold out group in Washington, DC
Feb 10, 2019 – Cart open for my first ever digital product, Breathing with the Maestro. Realized that I could ABSOLUTELY earn a living in the digital space (I can give actual numbers if you want)
July 1, 2019 – Hosted my first ever online (Instagram) challenge. Had 1500 people sign up.
July 5, 2019 – Cart open for my second digital product, Instagramming with the Maestro, again confirmed that the digital space is where it’s at
August 6, 2019 – First call for my first ever group coaching program, The Maestro’s Instagram Intensive – Yet again confirmed that the digital space is where it’s at, and where I want to focus all of my attention.
