The Desire to Be Seen

Tuesday, April 8th, 2025

I think it’s why people share all the shit they share on Threads.

It’s why people slide into my DMs saying they WISH they could go to my live event or take this round of the Intensive.

They want to be seen.

I don’t fault them.

Just making an observation.

An observation that honestly at times stops me from sharing things.

Not because I’m afraid of being seen, but because I realize that my reason for sharing is fully self-serving (again, not judging in a negative way) and is, at this time, unnecessary.

That last sentence implies that there are times when it is necessary, and while I can’t necessarily provide a list right now, it feels prudent to leave that option open.

Either way, it’s definitely why many people share so much of what they share on Threads, and I’m not really sure that it’s net positive.

I think more than anything it highlights the importance of friendship and community. Spaces, places, and people that make you feel seen.

Not that there’s anything wrong with being seen by strangers…but can they actually see you?

I suppose that’s the hope. To receive enough positive comments that can serve as evidence that one is not alone.

I realize I likely sound like a bit of an ass here, but what I read on Threads does concern me.

Though, I’m not saying it’s better to keep it in.

I suppose my hope is that people have someone besides strangers to share it with.

Maestro out.
