DM #97: Before you go hammering away at that tight muscle, using whatever fancy “release” or “stretching” technique you love the most, figure out why it's tight in the first place!
Many times that bad boy is tight because it's providing stability and picking up the slack for something else. You MUST assess before you address, so that you can fix whatever the underlying problem is. Release something that is providing compensatory stability without providing true stability to the system and you've just set yourself or your patient up for a trip to injuryville.
Ever wonder why your hamstrings stay tight no matter how much you stretch them, or your QL remains locked up despite all the lacrosse ball smashing? Guess what, they ain't the problem.
Stop attacking symptoms and take a minute to find the cause.
