The Maestro is NEVER off the clock. Had to maestrofy @allthemfeelings yesterday for some posterior lateral ankle pain.
Got the entire @rocktape arsenal out here: RockBlades, RockRub, RockSauce, and RockTape. Really can't say enough about the scrape and tape model for treating pain. And no, it's not because I work for RockTape. It's because this ? really works.
First I used the RockBlade Mullet (yes, that is a bottle opener, get over it) to perform a feathering technique (light, fast strokes) over the painful area to help manage pain by tapping into free nerve endings/enteroceptors within the tissue. Next, I performed slow, deeper strokes to tap into the Ruffini endings and help relax the surrounding tissue. RockSauce was next on the list, and is one of my favorite topical agents that just brings some heat and pain relief. Best of all, once it's rubbed in, you can put the tape RIGHT OVER IT and the tape will still stick ?? Finished up with a nice little RockTape application. And puhlease, for the love of all things tape-related, don't ask how much tension I put on the tape! I “pulled” the tape only as much as was required to get around the curves and boney prominences so that the tape wouldn't wrinkle. When it comes to stretch, less is more, so take it easy. Note, the circumferential taping provides more “stability” because it touches more skin and thus can have a greater neurosensory effect. I'm not physically trying to stop her from moving ? Just making that nervous system feel safer.
Whole thing took less than 8 minutes, and the patient was happy as a clam afterwards. And btw, her hips are the reason her ankle is feeling that way. Treat the symptoms, but find and fix the cause.
