DM #146: Had the dopest of dope conversations today with my dude, @biomechanicaldetective, and it left no question as to what tonight's DM would be.
Do yourself a favor and head over to his page and check out the video he posted about how the movement of bones will affect what the joint feels.
A joint is made up of two bones, and as such, we must concern ourselves with what each bone is doing and not just what the joint as a whole appears to be doing. Why? Because what those bones are doing in relation to each other is going to dictate what that joint feels, and how the muscles around it react. Additionally, when we look at muscles from the perspective of controlling motion (especially in the transverse plane) as opposed to producing movement, we start to get a better understand of dysfunction and injury.
Tonight's take home? In the presence of pain and dysfunction make sure the bones at that joint are actually doing what they're supposed to be doing, when they're supposed to be doing it. Movement NEVER lies.
