DM #210: Time is money. Don’t forget that.
I understand that there can be tons of barriers when it comes to finding a provider. I encourage folks to be their own best advocates and I am by no means against people performing, as K-Star would say “basic maintenance.” But honestly, do yourself a favor and get in and get assessed. Make sure that that all of that smashing is actually necessary (honestly, it never necessary to be that aggressive), and that you’re actually going after the right thing.
For those of you who may be quick to say that you live too far from a good provider, I understand. But, like I previously stated, time is money. The time that you’re spending trying to research it is what you have, the time you spend away from your family because you’re too injured to play with your kids, time spent being miserable at work because it hurts to sit, time spent away from the gym because it hurts to exercise…all that time adds up. You can make more money. You can’t make more time. Suddenly that nagging injury has been around for 2 years, and who knows how much time you’ve lost and how much it’s affected your life.
Spend time researching where you can find a good provider instead of trying Instagram video after video, hoping that one of them ‘fixes’ your bad knee. Now, don’t get me wrong, social media has a ton of valuable information, but don’t mistake your internet prowess for a medical degree. In that same vein, don’t just assume that every provider is created equally. Use social media to see what’s trending, what other providers are doing, what the movement community is championing. Then, when you do make it in to see that provider you’ll have a much better gauge as to what is legit and what is passive BS that isn’t going to do much besides make your wallet lighter.
Don’t guess, get assessed. Easier said than done, I get it. But you’re worth it.
