DM #211: Stop putting those plastic things in your shoes to compensate for the fact that you don't move well or nearly enough. While you're at it, take your shoes off and spend some time barefoot.
Now, don't get me wrong, the intrinsic (and extrinsic) muscles of your feet are HUGELY important when it comes to supporting that arch and promoting proper mechanics, but I wanted to spend some time talking about that lovely butt, because people tend to forget how much it can help your feet.
Give it a try, and see how activating your butt muscles (including the rotators, was gonna include them in the DM statement but it wasn't as succinct ?) can help raise those arches up.
Stand with your feet facing forward, squeeze your butt cheeks together as if you're trying to crack a walnut ? and simultaneously screw your feet into the ground by rotating your legs outward. Don't let the feet rotate outward as you do this. If you're doing it right you should notice the arches of your feet lifting upwards. No surprise. It's all connected. I could go into all the biomechanics but suffice to say the hip bone's connected to the leg bone…and so on and so forth.
So, before you go adding a crutch to your dysfunctional movement patterns, try to use what you've already got to help yourself out. That body of yours is pretty amazing. Ya just gotta use it right.
