DM #224: The breath. It is EVERYTHING.
If you’re working on your movement but have assessed, and if necessary, addressed your breathing, you’re stacking performance on dysfunction (h/t to Gray Cook for that last part). Treating pain, decreasing stress, increasing core stability, improving mobility, owning your movement, proper digestion, endocrine function…need I go on? It ALL starts with the breath. And no, don’t ask me for the research that supports this. You want research, try holding your breath for 5 minutes and see what happens.
So, go ahead and set your goals for this year. Run faster, jump higher, lift heavier. But remember, it all starts with the breath. So, add that to your list.
