DM #249: A little continuation from last night's DM. Yes, sometimes the problem is your feet and you need to strengthen them. BUT, sometimes where you think it is, it ain't, and those feet of yours are doing the work for other areas.
So, what else could they be working for? Well, as it relates to tonight's DM, your core, oh and your butt! Btw, when I say core I'm also talking about your pelvic floor…and diaphragm…and all the other stuff in that area, not just your 6 pack ?. As we discussed yesterday, gripping in the hands or feet can be a compensatory strategy to help the core fire a little better via a process known as irradiation. Try to squeeze your toes as tight as you possibly can and you shouldn't be surprised that you start to squeeze your butt and your core (and likely a bunch of other muscles too). So, if your core's not doing what it's supposed to be doing when it's supposed to be doing it, your body may compensate by squeezing those toes to give you a little extra assistance.
And yes, burpees, double-unders, running ALL require your core to be doing its job ?
How can you tell if it's your core that's really the problem? Get in and get assessed ? But, if you always find yourself immediately rushing to take off your shoes after workouts that involve things like burpees, double unders, box jumps, running, or, really anything, yes, work on strengthening those feet, but definitely give that core (and dat ?) a look.
