DM #279: Seemed only fitting to drop this one in the wake of 17.1.
My dude @paul_the_physio posted this last night, and it more succinctly states something that I say at all m seminars: pain and tissue damage are NOT synonymous.
Perhaps I'm on a bit of a pain science kick again (I mean, can you blame me?!), but this is a fundamental concept that we all need to understand. And no, I'm not talking about the old “are you hurt or are you injured?” nonsense.
Injury is physiological. Pain, well pain is HUGELY complex and should be treated as such. Just because something hurts doesn't mean the tissue in that area is injured, and just because something is injured doesn't mean it will hurt. Let that sink in for a second ?
I'm gonna keep this one short because I'd honestly rather you head over and check out Paul's page for his take on this. Work smarter, not harder, right? But in all honesty, the guy does have a way with words.
Alrighty, time to go recover from the trauma of my Midwest wintertime travel debacle. ?
