DM #280: ?….translation: Touch the skin, light up the brain.
We’ve got tons of nerve endings in the skin, which means every time something touches your skin your nervous system gets sent a whole bunch of information.
Why should you care? Well, this is one of the ways that kinesiology tape works. With the advent of the CrossFit Open I’ve been receiving a lot of questions regarding just how RockTape works. So here ya go. We call this the neurosensory effect, and it’s hands-down my favorite part of using tape.
Why? Because you can change and improve movement in an instant. All that hair, all those nerve endings, all that information that can be, and is transmitted just by touching the skin. Sensory input for motor output. The beautiful thing is that tape STAYS on the skin, which means those receptors continue to be stimulated and that information continues to be sent. Yes, you accommodate to the stimulus. No, tape doesn’t ‘work’ forever. ?
Take-home message: tape your skin, feed your brain.
