DM #290: Touch the skin, light up the brain. Let's take a minute to move away from the mechanical, and towards the neurological.

Anytime you touch someone's skin, be at with your hands, a ball, or tool, it is likely that you were having the greatest effect through, and via the nervous system.
There's a reason that people take before-and-after pictures immediately after manual treatment instead of taking a picture of how that person looks 24 or 36 hours later. That ? goes back to how it used to look!

The nervous system is easily tricked but not easily convinced. To that end, when we do manual work, we open up a neurological window that doesn't stay open forever. It's what we do when this window is open that makes all the difference. Hint hint, movement.

In all likelihood, when we do manual work we're not breaking things apart, or creating long lasting mechanical changes in a single session. If that were the case, people will only need to see you one time, and you would charge a whole lot more than you do.

So, recognize manual treatment for what it's worth. Hugely valuable, but more so because of the opportunities it gives us to work with the nervous system.
Oh, and PS – RockTape helps to keep that window open longer. Jussayen.
