DM #325: Intention, both on the part of the person prescribing the exercise and the person performing the exercise is at the top of the food chain.

Social media is great. I love it. So much free information out there, so many connections to make, and let’s not even get started on the hilarious memes. But as is the case with anything, likes and quality are not purely synonymous, especially when you have no idea who the folks providing those likes are.

Now, I feel like that analogy may yield criticism from the ever-so-wonderful social media trolls out there who will say something along the lines of ‘But what about Yelp.’ Well, first off, Yelp has algorithms. Second, it seems as though most of the folks who actually go on yelp and review things are pretty miserable (sorry if that’s you), and three, the folks on Yelp have actually eaten at those places. Folks liking stuff on instagram in all likelihood haven’t tried the exercise…they just think it looks cool or that the hot girl performing it has a nice ? . Just sayin.

Flip side, there is tons of amazing ? out there. Tons of it. My point is simply that the value of the exercise being performed should be based on having actually performed it and given it the proper intention. That hip drill ain’t gonna do crap if you’re just twisting at your knee. That calf stretch ain’t gonna stick if you don’t actually activate anything. That ‘core’ exercise ain’t gonna do jack for your back pain if you’re just using your back muscles to perform it. Intention is everything. Happy scrolling. Make sure you like all of my posts. ?
