DM #350: Another quote, overhead while watching yet another movie, on yet another flight across the country. ✈️ Sorry for the super late post. All part of that travel life. ??♂️

Lifted this little gem from Inferno, and while the dude who said it was ?-? crazy, he was spot on. Pain. Changes. Everything.
—
This weekend I had the opportunity to teach at NYU where I went to PT school, and had an interesting discussion with the current DPT students about the lack of pain science education within the curriculum. It seems pretty silly to me that we have no formal training for the number one thing that our patients come to us for…pain.
—
As we know, pain is EXTREMELY complex and multifaceted. It is never just a “hardware” problem, and yet that is the approach that we are taught for intervention. Don't get me wrong, physical interventions are absolutely an important component to treating pain, but there's also a whole lot more to it. Given the fact that the majority of our patients are coming to us to get help with their pain, we should probably do our best to learn whatever we can about the complexities of pain.

So, as the man said, “Nothing changes behavior like pain.” It will absolutely change our patient's behaviors, and this fact should absolutely change our approach and desire to learn as providers.
