All too often when folks sustain an injury doing what they love, they think that if they take a day off (after suffering for weeks and weeks) and then go at it hard once the pain is no longer debilitating, they'll be fine. Tends to be wishful thinking for the most part.

For starters, physiological healing takes time. You can't cheat biology. Think about that cut you got on your knee and the scab that you continued to pick and so it took weeks and weeks and weeks to heal. The rest of you tissues are no different. Injure it, then keep using it, running on it, squatting with it, stressing those tissues in an uncontrolled way…it's gonna take a long time to heal. It's just science.

Applying gradual, gradated, controlled stress to tissues is absolutely beneficial. But, as the DM said, doing the EXACT same thing that caused the injury, not so much. Once something is injured, we should respect the physiology, change our behavior as needed, listen to our bodies, and be smart about reintroducing movement with the ultimate goal of returning to our hobbies/pastimes/jobs/passions/etc.

Injury doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you love forever, but if what you love keeps causing you pain, ya gotta switch it up for a little bit. Get assessed, figure it the why, treat the symptoms, address the why, gradually work your way back to it. The end.
