The couch stretch is one of the best ways to improve anterior line mobility, specifically at the hip flexor and quad.
—
If you struggle with hip extension, this is an EXCELLENT mobility drill for you to consider adding to your routine. If you can't extend your hips well, good luck with toes to bar, kipping/butterfly pull-ups, Olympic lifts, running, jumping, and basically anything that requires you to generate power and enter into that superman position.

All the instructions are stated in the video, but the main point is to keep your body in a straight line, making sure not to bend at the hip or overarch the low back. Engaging the core and the glutes (of the side being worked on) ensures proper positioning, helps with targeting the right tissues, and throws in a little reciprocal inhibition. —
You should feel this in your quad primarily, along with the hip flexor. This stretch will hit that quad harder than a true hip flexor stretch because the knee is flexed which means that the rectus femoris ? is getting lengthened across both the hip and knee joint at the same time. Don't forget, part of that quad serves as a hip flexor, so if it's “tight”, hip extension will suffer. Reps/sets ?: 2 minutes on each side once a day.
