Pain is a great motivator, and rightfully so. It’s your nervous system’s way of trying to protect you. You’d be wise to respect it, and take a moment to figure out just why those signals are being sent, and if something does in fact need to change.

That last point however, avoiding a movement simply because someone says it’s bad for you…well now that’s something that you just might want to reconsider. Absolutely not trying to be a Deb here and say that the world is against you, BUT, many times folks are speaking from a position of self-interest when they throw out generalized statements like that. Perhaps that movement hurt THEM in the past, or it’s something that THEY don’t like doing, or it just doesn’t agree with THEM.

At the end of the day, I firmly believe that there really aren’t very many bad exercises, just poorly applied exercises. Most things can be justified when related to a specific context, and honestly, at the end of the day there’s no such thing as a one size fits all approach.

So, tonight’t take home? Listen to your body. Be mindful with your movement. Gather as much information as you can, but be your own experiment.
