DM #433: Pain and tightness are SYMPTOMS, not causes.

Unless you were immobilized or experienced some sort of trauma to that area, if an area stays FEELING tight, it's because something ain't doing it's job!

I've discussed the fact that just because a muscle feels tight by no means indicates that it's short. It all honesty, the majority of the time, if you can perceive tension in a muscle it's likely in a lengthened position. ? Let that marinate for a second. Short, tight muscles don't say anything. No one complains about pec tightness until they go to try and stretch them. Short muscles have no problem living there. It's the lengthened ones that are unhappy.

So, what to do about them? Be nice! And then go figure out what area in your body has lost stability (reflexive and volitional control), which is the actual reason that that “tight” muscle is screaming out. It's doing the work for someone else. Find the lazy one. Be nice to the hard-working one, and see what happens. You just might be pleasantly surprised.
