DM #452: Sometimes smashing helps…but when it stops helping, STOP SMASHING!
—
All too often I see folks trying the same thing over, and over, and over, and then wondering why things aren’t getting better. While I commend you for actually trying to do something to improve your situation, let’s recall Einstein’s definition of insanity…and apply it to using that lacrosse ball.

So, what to do? Well, as always, get assessed (have I beat that dead horse enough yet? No? Didn’t think so.) But, as I’ve said before, pain and tightness are symptoms, not causes. They are there for a reason. So, if smashing and stretching helped, but now it’s not doing jack…it’s time to look elsewhere and find out WHY that muscle is tight in the first place. 9 times out of 10 you’re lacking stability somehwere, and that nervous system of yours is just trying to protect you. If you had direct trauma or immobilization of the area, that’s a little different. But for those of you with that “I dunno, it’s just always been tight” syndrome…something is asking for stability.

Btw, I got this quote from that book I posted earlier, Born For This, by Chris Guillebeau. A must read for anyone out there looking to level up and pursue their passion. Alrighty, bed for me. @RockTape Movability in Muscle Shoals in the morning!!!
