DM #454: No one likes a mouth breather ??♂️.

Makin my way through Patrick McKeown's incredible book, The Oxygen Advantage (can't recommend this book highly enough) and knew I had to share this gem. So what's the deal?

Mouth breathing blows off more carbon dioxide (CO2) than nasal breathing. Decreased CO2 levels in the body are directly correlated with arterial constriction. Arterial constriction means less blood going to the brain (and muscles). Less blood to the brain means grogginess, lethargy, and generally feeling like ?.

Don't understand what I mean? Try breathing quickly through your mouth for about 2 minutes. You'll likely get dizzy before you even hit that 2 min mark. You've just demonstrated exactly what all that science stuff above ??was saying.
—
Take home message? You can't sleep your way out of the fatigue caused by poor breathing patterns. To quote @powerspeedendurance, “Don't be a horrible, reckless mouth breather.”

Wanna learn more? Come to @RockTape's RockStock next month, where I, along with @joelavapt, @stopchasingpain, @fasciadoc, @coach_brettb, @dr.kreiswirth and some other dope folks will be talking all things breathing and recovery. Link in da bio ??.
