DM #514: You gotta squat. It just might save your life.
—
Tonight's DM was 100% inspired by a post that @perform_better put up last night, that basically said that squatting isn't for tall people. I can't be certain it wasn't taken out of context, so, I'm not trying to have an argument (honestly, I'm never trying to have an argument ?), but rather, simply share my two pennies on this subject.

Long femurs make it harder to do a barbell back squat. Absolutely. Does this mean it should automatically be removed from one's training program? Not really. Does this mean that all squatting should be removed? ABSOLUTELY NOT! You wanna be a good athlete? Be a good mover. You wanna be a good mover? Squat. In some capacity.

There are a whole bunch of variations of the squat, and if you know movement, you'll know which version is most appropriate for your patient/client. We must always remember that the more movements we avoid, the more damage we end up doing. So we modify, make it appropriate, and root our ideals in the fundamentals. There's never a need to force a square peg into a round hole. Truly understand movement and you'll realize you have the power to change the shape of that hole.
