DM #517: One of those DM's that applies to so much more than just movement. ❤️

Read Tom Asacker's book, The Business of Belief during my flight home tonight, and picked up this little ?. One of my favorite things about physical therapy, is that at its essence, it's an art. Yes, there's science, but at the end of the day, we're treating humans. And as such, it's never a cut and dry. And that is what makes it fun.

I spent the weekend with a bunch of physical therapy students, and it was refreshing to learn that they still realized that despite all the advances in technology, and techniques, you cannot put the science before the person. You cannot simply treat by what the studies say.

This quote reflects both my approach to life, and how I've evolved to treat. Sometimes you have to go by feel. Sometimes you have to just take the leap. When people ask “WHERE ARE THE STUDIES?!” before they even ask “did it help the patient?”, there's a problem.
—
This is by no means a post to bash on research and studies. They have their place. This is simply a post to remind people to take a step back and remember what it is that they're doing: Living, not just existing. Helping PEOPLE, not tables. As such, a reorganizing of thoughts and actions just might be needed.
