Just a little food for thought. What’s the difference between those two names? Well, when we call something a “Syndrome” we tend to think that it is what’s causing the problem. When we classify something as a symptom we immediately understand that it ain’t the cause, and there is something else going on. Big difference.

Would changing the name stop people from abusing their IT-bands with foam rollers? ? I have no idea. But at least it might get them to start realizing that they’re just putting a band-aid on the issue, taking a cough suppressant, putting air in that tire with the slow leak…aka not addressing the actual problem.

Take home message: your IT-bands aren’t the problem. Ever. (I honestly cant think of any exceptions to this) They are a symptom. Of what? Something else, somewhere else, not doing its job. Am I saying don’t treat them? No. Just make sure they’re not the only thing you’re treating.
