DM #644: Was scrolling through IG today and came across a video of a woman doing a pretty advanced hamstring slider drill and this question popped into my head. I honestly had to wonder if I could do what she was doing, and if I could’t, if that was the reason I hurt my hamstring last year (it’s all better now) while rock climbing.

Let’s cut to the chase here. I’m not here to use fear tactics and tell you that you don’t have the prerequisite mobility or stability or strength to do whatever it is you want to do. Nope. Just throwing the question out there, especially to those of you who might be working through an injury, did you get injured because you avoiding things in your training?

Zero injury-shaming here. The reality is, getting injured is a part of being active, trying new things, and pushing your limits. Things can happen. BUT, I do think that we can do things to decreased both the risk and the recovery time. Train your end-ranges. Train the weird positions. Do the not-so-sexy stuff. We tend to get hurt in the positions that we don’t train, so…keep that in mind. Do let today’s avoidance become tomorrow’s injury.
