Just because it looks different doesnât mean itâs broken. Just because it isnât the same doesnât mean you need to âfixâ it.
â
Listened to a pretty dope webinar today by Ron Hruska and he dropped this gem as part of his opening slides. I took a @posturalrestorationinst course not too long ago, and this webinar highlighted many of the underlying principles taught during that class, and also introduced a lot of the higher level concepts relating to the jaw/neck/skull, but the take home was the same; We ainât perfectly symmetrical, and thatâs ok.
â
Issues can however arise when we start to fall too far one way or the other into that asymmetry, and then are unable to get the pendulum to swing back the other way. As always, the key becomes movement variability and having the freedom to move in and out of any of those patterns at any time. Find yourself stuck in a single pattern, no matter how pretty or âfunctionalâ it may be, and repetitive stress tends to eventually get the best of us.
â
So, tonightâs take-home: Being different is normal. Being able to move in and out of those differences is ideal.
