DM #669: If you want something different, do something differently.
—
So, yes, I cannot lie. Another post spurred by the @CrossFit Open, but still very much applicable to, well, everything. As it relates to fitness, if you want something to change, you gotta change things. Working on the same thing year and and out will yield the same results. You’ll get better at those things while continuing to suck at that other stuff that you’ve so conveniently avoided. Yes, carry-over is real thing, but you also know when you’re just feeding yourself a real big load of BS. Want to get better at the stuff you’re bad at? Work on the stuff that you’re bad at. Very simple.

As it relates to treatment, if you keep smashing your tissues, keep lacrosse-balling your ‘knots’, keep scraping yourself to death…and yet all those same issues keep coming back…well, it’s probably time to change it up a little. Now, I’ll even be open-minded here and say that while I’d prefer you change your aggressive self-treatment approach, changing your workout style so that you’re not always so beat up is also something worth considering. And as it relates to the quote in the DM, it’s not something that you’ve always done.

So, tonight’s take-home: thank goodness the Open is almost done, and if you want things to change, well, then you gotta change what you’re doing.
