Nobody likes an ask-hole.
The way I see it, there are a few simple rules to follow when asking for, receiving, and even giving advice.
If you directly ask for someone’s advice, you had better take it. If you receive some free advice, hey—it’s free! Take what you get!
If you feel the urge to give advice, wait until you’re asked. If you really, really have something to say, then make sure you say it in your space.
Whatever the results may be from giving or receiving advice, take radical responsibility for it. Everything is an opportunity for growth, as long as you allow yourself to learn from the outcome.
