DM #267: That skeleton hanging in the corner of your anatomy class looks pretty wimpy, huh? Or how bout that dreadful analogy likening your robust spinal discs to a jelly donut. Who came up with that?? Dissections were initially done on cadavers…dead people…lifeless tissue. While the nerves may have been intact, they weren't actually doing anything…and well, let's face it, the nervous system is EVERYTHING.
So what do I mean by this post? Simply that we need to get away from such a mechanical approach to treatment and understanding the human body. The nervous system grants us mobility. The nervous system remembers. The nervous system reacts to your manual treatments.
If you think that your treatments are breaking apart tissues, putting SI joints back into place, and lengthening IT-bands then you'd better ask yourself how your back and hip doesn't explode when you step off a curb or jump down from a box.
Yes, there is a mechanical aspect to things, but if that's your primary lens then you're missing the picture. Considering changing your lens. It just might change everything.
