A little #FBF for dat ?. Last night's Daily Maestroism talked about the foot and the core. Figured I'd follow it up today with one of my favorite posts demonstrating a more advanced foot strengthening drill. Do you even short foot, bro?

One of the best demonstrations of Janda's short foot exercise that I have ever seen. Shoutout to J. Love for letting me film her awesome moment.
The short foot is an excellent way to work on the intrinsic muscles of the foot, work on motor control at the foot, and help strengthen, support, or even create that arch. It's typically not the first drill I give to my patients, as most folks are so divorced from what's going on in their feet (shoes and socks create for a great disconnect between mind and body) that I have to simply start by showing the where their feet are. Toe yoga, taping the bottom of the foot, tactile cuing with my hands are all helpful precursors. But once we are ready to rock and roll with this drill, it's money.
The goal is to “shorten” the foot, or slide the ball of the foot towards the heel of the foot, without scrunching the toes (aka using the extrinsic muscles of the foot) or simply rolling the foot towards the outside.
If you walk on two feet, this is a drill that should be in your movement arsenal. Give it a try and lemme know how it goes. Warning: it's not as easy at it looks. Foot cramps are a real thing. ?
