DM #581: Often times things are easier said than done. Just the nature of the the beast. ??♂️

Had a dope convo earlier today and this was a point that came up. As clinicians we want the best for our patients. We want to help them with their pain and get them moving in the best way possible. To have them understand the value of a healthy lifestyle with more movement and less ?-y food. But sometimes those radical changes just aren't possible.
—
Remember, we don't fix, we facilitate. As such, we can only do what the patient will allow; going to where they are ready to meet us. Yes, being a better human and going outside more, hanging from things, selling your shoes, quitting your stressful job, and growing your own food might be THE answer to whatever your patient has going on. But, if at the end of the day your patients aren't ready to go there…you gotta respect that.
—
Treatments should focus on education and empowerment, but as a clinician your goals should always be rooted in an understanding of where your patient is, and what kind of change they are ready for. ALWAYS set your goals high, but just make sure that you're able to listen to you patients and make a plan that works for them.
