DM #153: Take a step back and look at the bigger picture, folks. When it comes to knee pain, people are finally realizing that the knee usually isn't to blame. Typically there something going on, somewhere else, and that knee is taking up the brunt of it. The knee is just a single player in a bigger system, and we must assess and assess thing both regionally and globally if we want full resolution of symptoms. Similarly, when it comes to treating pelvic floor pain and pelvic floor dysfunction, we must remember that the pelvic floor is not this separate entity that works independent of the rest of the body. Far from it.
Because of how society views the pelvic floor and because of how it's taught in school, we seem to think that the pelvic floor functions all by itself, and is this area that when dysfunctional, should be treated all by itself. I can't lie, I too have fallen victim to this line of thinking.

The pelvic floor is an integral part part of our core, and functions in conjunction with the rest of our body. If it is dysfunctional, we must consider how it interacts with the rest of our systems, and not simply poke and prod an already painful area. Localized treatment is absolutely warranted, just make sure it's not the only thing being done. You wouldn't just treat someone's knee if they came to you with knee pain. If you would, don't let me catch you. Because if you do, I'm gonna kick you in the knee.
