DM #126: You're strong, you're heathy, you have no pain, and you're moving pretty well. You put on some kinesiology tape because you saw all those Olympians wearing it which means you need it (because clearly you are on par with Olympians). You go to the gym, certain of a PR. You pull, you lift, and nada. No stronger. No better. No change. No ?!!!! Tape will only help if you need it! For a system that is functioning normally, tape ain't gonna do a damn thing. Fatigue that system, injure that system, or have dysfunction present from the start, and suddenly tape becomes a viable treatment option to help improve performance and restore normalcy.
The majority of folks I see spouting off about how tape doesn't work are basing their claims off of horrendous studies, and honestly just don't have the understanding of how the tape works or is to be used in the first place.
Am I saying that tape works all the time, for every person, in every situation? Absolutely not. But is there science behind it? Yes. (No, I'm not trying to send you studies. Give a man a fish ?) Can it work when the system needs it? Absolutely. Is placebo a dirty word? Absolutely not.
Long story short, tape is not magical unicorn dust that will make a strong person stronger and a fast person faster. Tape normalizes functionality, and given the fact that most people are living in a state of subconscious dysfunction, tape can improve aberrant patterns and help with motor control…up to the point of making things “normal”. Tape will not make you superhuman, but it can make you a normal functioning human. And that, for most people, is far better than where there currently are.
