DM #527: You don’t stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing.

My dude @strongcamps dropped this gem the other night on his insta story and it really resonated with me. We champion how children move, yet we don’t seem to aspire to get back to moving like them. There are very few things that we watch children do and say that it is ‘bad’ for them (w-sitting is bad…just saying). They squat below parallel, they crawl with crazy patterns, they stand up, they fall down, they hang from things, they pick up things that are “heavy” for them, they bend, they twist…they do it all.
—
Fast-forward a few years and suddenly squatting is bad. Bending is bad. Twisting is bad. Kneeling is bad. What the heck happened? I’ll tell you what happened. We stopped moving, and then when we went to move into those once familiar but now VERY unfamiliar positions, we got hurt…and then deemed that movement ‘bad’. Ya gotta ask yourself, is the movement bad or have you just been bad at moving?

The beautiful thing? While movement may be ‘use it or lose it’, you don’t have to lose it forever. Move. Explore. Turn back time.
