DM #504: Manipulations affect neurology far more than they affect structure. ?

When you get adjusted or manip'd, you're not getting things put back into place. Can those types of treatments help? Absolutely! But let's always remember to ask how.

So what am I talking about with this? Well, if you can't squat, and then someone manips your ankle and suddenly you can squat a whole lot better, your ankle isn't truly “locked up”. If you can't touch your toes, then you get your back adjusted and suddenly you can touch the ground, you don't have “short” hamstrings, nor is your pelvis “rotated”.

What you've got going on is a reflexive tightening of tissues as effort to provide STABILITY to that (or another) area. That manip you just did reset the nervous system, gave it new information, made it feel safe. Safety = stability. When the nervous system feels safety and stability it will grant you mobility. Simple as that.

What do I mean by absolute mobility restrictions? True, physiological restrictions. Torsioned bones, loss of fascial glide, aka ? is legit stuck. That stuff, takes time to change, if it ever changes at all.

So, keep asking why and how and figuring out just what is going on. Hint: it's usually a stability issue. Just sayin ??‍♂️.
