DM #503: It doesn't need to be fancy, it just needs to be good.

Had an interesting discussion last night with a current chiro student and she made an excellent point that often times young clinicians (of any profession) are made to believe they need something fancy and flashy in order to stand out. The latest machine, the latest manual technique, the latest tool. Folks tend to get so caught up on that that they forget about the bread and butter, the meat and potatoes, the fundamentals of the profession…and the fact that being really good at those things will take you very far.

I'm all about continued growth and development, and using technological advances to better our outcomes when appropriate. But when I think about the best in any field, it becomes apparent that they aren't the best because of what they have, but rather because of what they do.

Master the basics. Own the fundamentals. Excellent at the soft skills. Then worry about the fancy stuff.
