DM #444: That Dr. Seuss knew his ?.
—
My boy @amucurio sent me this as a screen shot (Totally go follow him. Such good sport performance coaching stuff.) the other day and I was completely blown away. Leave it to the author of children's books to so concisely and precisely lay it out. Pain is a request for change. It's a protective mechanism. That's it. It does not indicate that you have damage to an area, or that tissue has been harmed. It's simply your nervous system's way of saying, “help me, I don't feel safe.”
—
There may or may not be tissue damage. There may or may not be physical injury. The signal may or may not be appropriate for the stimulus. All we know for sure is that your nervous system is looking for something to change.

Not much more to say about this. Cat in the Hat. Green Eggs and Ham. And now pain science musings. What couldn't that guy do?! ?
